Get sponsors, and come prepared to ride, ride, ride for this school fundraiser!

What is a Bike-A-Thon? Bike-A-Thon is a fundraiser in which the children ride around our track, making as many laps as they can in their twenty minute time limit. They are sponsored by the lap or a flat donation.

After they have ridden and had their laps counted by their pit crew, the riders pick up their participation trophies and their popsicles. Pledged money is turned in to the school office after their sponsors are notified of their lap count.

This is a fun event, as our children love bringing their very own bikes/scooters (and safety gear!) from home to ride. In order to participate, your child’s permission slip must be turned in the morning before their ride and they must have a “pit crew” adult with them.

Children who do not have a pit crew adult will participate in other activities during the event.

How Can We Prepare?
First, please take the sponsor sheet to friends, neighbors and relatives and ask them to support our school by sponsoring your child in the Bike-A-Thon. We are raising money for building upgrades and repairs. They can pledge an amount per lap, or they can donate a set amount just for participation. Our Tax ID # is 95-4712403 and your donations are tax deductible!

Students who raise $100 or more win admission to the “Princess and the Avenger” party! (An incredibly awesome character event full of games and laughter– last year Rapunzel & Optimus Prime came!)

In addition, the top selling student will win a one night family pass to Kids Night Out & a Creek T-Shirt! Our second and third runner ups will also receive a Creek T-Shirt. We are in the process of getting more prizes and sponsors too…

Second, decide who will be your child’s “Pit Crew” – an adult is required to be on site supervising the ride. Additional pit crew members and cheering fans are always welcome too!

The Day of the Bike a Thon  Bring the bike/scooter and safety gear to school either at morning drop off (we’ll have bike parking in the basketball court) or right before your child’s ride time. Make sure you have turned your permission slip in to the school office.

When it is time for your child to ride, make sure you sign your child out of the class, and then head out to have some fun!

Out on the track (we’ve blocked off part of the parking lot) we’ll have the kids line up at the start zone and get ready for their endurance race. We give the children 15 minutes to ride at their own pace before announcing the end of the ride time.

After the ride, we’ll have a cold treat popsicle treat on the lawn, and all children who ride can pick up their trophy too!

How do we collect the money?
If the sponsor is pledging money per lap completed, you’ll need to check in with them after the event, so that they can find learn how many laps your child did and how much they owe.

If the sponsor is pledging a flat donation for participation, you can collect that money before the event.

All checks should be made out to “The Creek Preschool.” Money and pledge sheets are turned into the school office.

Donations are due by May 23 in order to be counted towards the Princess and the Avenger Party and the individual prizes.

Extracuricular Activities Update: These classes start the week of March 5 at 1pm at The Creek

• Mondays: NEW! Young Doctors

Children will learn about how our bodies work and the bones, muscles, and organs that make us go. We’ll also be talking about the different instruments doctors use and how to stay healthy. Expect lots of fun in this age-appropriate focused science class series with Ms. Diane.

• Tuesdays: Skateboarding

The incredibly popular skateboarding class with Mr. Jared has moved to a new day. Children will spend part of the class practicing moves on finger skateboards and part of the class putting it into practice on their boards.

• Wednesdays: Dance

StarDreams Dance & Gymnastics has moved to Wednesdays. Creative movement with ballet and jazz, a bit of tumbling, and a lot of fun.

• Thursdays & Fridays: Sports

Coach Joel returns with the ever-popular sports programs here at The Creek. Thursday’s class plays T-Ball & Soccer. Friday’s class plays T-Ball & Basketball.

Chancy Bruce School Readiness Testing: March 8 & 9 at The Creek for children currently enrolled in Pre-K or Kindergarten classes.

This develeopmental screening is a great oppertunity to have your child’s readiness for the rigors of kindergarten (or 1st grade) accessed by a team of professionals. They look for social and emotional maturity, as well as a variety of factors in information processing. Results are discussed at the Parent Meeting on March 21 at 7PM.

The last day to turn in a sign up form is March 5. You can pick up a form in the school office.

Chapels:

• March 14 (led by Green Room) and March 15 (led by Kindergarten) at 11:40am. They will be telling us the story of “The Wind that Obeyed” and teaching us about Jesus’ power over nature.
• March 29 & 30 at 11am – Join us for our Easter Chapel (and party!) We’ll be learning about the “Sad Day and the Happy Day” and about how we can be joyful that Jesus is alive!

Friday Flood: February’s Flood Event was a ton of fun! We learned about God’s Love, and how the Holy Spirit helps us love one another. (Go Holy Spirit!) We also had a blast rocking out to some great worship music, playing friendship games, and stuffing hearts to be full… because God wants us to have a full heart of love.

March’s Friday Flood is the 16th from 6:00-7:30PM. Sign up on the clipboard at the school office, or let us know to add your children to the list. Flood is for kids preschool through 5th grade.

Bake Sale News: February’s Bake Sale was a great success! Both T-Th and MWF Blue Rooms raised over $150 each for their classrooms. Mr. Andrews & Mrs. Desirée are both overjoyed at the generosity and are planning their new classroom purchases.

For March, Rainbow Room is hosting the Bake Sale on the 22 & 23 so stop by for some tasty treats!

Open House: March 27 from 6:00-7:30pm

Easter Parties: March 29 & 30 at 11:00am. We start in chapel, then end back in the classrooms to celebrate Jesus’ Resurruction. Come join us!

Spring Break April 2-13: the Creek is closed for these two weeks of Spring Break. However, Coach Joel is holding “Spring Fever Camp” for children preschool through 3rd grade during this time. Find out more here

Good Friday Church Service: Come join us at 6:30pm on April 6 at River47 for a time of rememberance. As Pastor Frank said for the children as he placed a cross of ashes on their foreheads at our Ash Wednesday service, “Remember what Jesus did for you, and believe in Him.”

Easter Church Service: Come celebrate with us as we rejoice knowing that “Jesus is Alive!” Sunday April 8. 9:00am and 10:30am services to choose from.

To that end, we’re continuing our [...]]]> It’s a new round of cold and flu season this year and we’re getting hit with the new bugs for 2012.

At the Creek we want to make sure that we’re staying as healthy as possible.  And while we love sharing toys, we don’t want to share our illnesses!

To that end, we’re continuing our “healthy habits” routines of hand washing, tissue using, cover mouth when coughing, and generally trying to prevent passing on our germs.

Please help us to keep everyone healthy too.  Here’s a reminder on our health policy at the Creek. Please make sure that you’re aware of these rules as they are in place to protect your child’s health.

Medicine & Illness

 Your child’s health is important to us. We want to protect your child and all the children in our program.  State law requires that we have only healthy children in attendance.

By keeping your ill child at home, infections are not being spread to others and your child is not being exposed to something new while his or her resistance to infection is low.

Do not bring your sick child to school. Children who appear ill when they arrive will not be admitted.

Please let us know if your child has a contagious disease so that parents of other children in our facility can be alerted, if necessary.

Your child will need to be kept at home if he/she:

• Has a fever or has had one in the past 24 hours
• Has vomited in the last 24 hours
• Is taking antibiotics and has not been on the  antibiotic
  for 24 hours
• Has had diarrhea, even if caused by taking an antibiotic, in the last 24 hours
• Has eye discharge or crust.  Must wait 24 hours after starting medication for conjunctivitis (pink eye) and eye must be free of redness or discharge before returning to school.
• Has croup. Your child must say out until the fever and cough are gone.
• Has a constant runny nose unrelated to seasonal allergies.
• Has an undiagnosed body rash. Doctor’s note is required to return.
• Has symptoms of a possible communicable disease: sniffles, reddened eyes, sore throat, headaches, body aches, fever.
• Has a doctor’s appointment for a suspected illness. Please do not bring your child to class prior to the appointment.
