At the Creek we want to make sure that we’re staying as healthy as possible.  And while we love sharing toys, we don’t want to share our illnesses!

To that end, we’re continuing our “healthy habits” routines of hand washing, tissue using, cover mouth when coughing, and generally trying to prevent passing on our germs.

Please help us to keep everyone healthy too.  Here’s a reminder on our health policy at the Creek. Please make sure that you’re aware of these rules as they are in place to protect your child’s health.

Medicine & Illness

 Your child’s health is important to us. We want to protect your child and all the children in our program.  State law requires that we have only healthy children in attendance.

By keeping your ill child at home, infections are not being spread to others and your child is not being exposed to something new while his or her resistance to infection is low.

Do not bring your sick child to school. Children who appear ill when they arrive will not be admitted.

Please let us know if your child has a contagious disease so that parents of other children in our facility can be alerted, if necessary.

Your child will need to be kept at home if he/she:

• Has a fever or has had one in the past 24 hours
• Has vomited in the last 24 hours
• Is taking antibiotics and has not been on the  antibiotic
  for 24 hours
• Has had diarrhea, even if caused by taking an antibiotic, in the last 24 hours
• Has eye discharge or crust.  Must wait 24 hours after starting medication for conjunctivitis (pink eye) and eye must be free of redness or discharge before returning to school.
• Has croup. Your child must say out until the fever and cough are gone.
• Has a constant runny nose unrelated to seasonal allergies.
• Has an undiagnosed body rash. Doctor’s note is required to return.
• Has symptoms of a possible communicable disease: sniffles, reddened eyes, sore throat, headaches, body aches, fever.
• Has a doctor’s appointment for a suspected illness. Please do not bring your child to class prior to the appointment.

Spring Break Camp

Spring Break Camp will take place both weeks of our two-week Spring Break. It will run April 2-5th (Camp will be closed on the 6th for Good Friday) and will run April 9-13 all week. The main camp hours are 9am-1pm but extended care from 8am-3pm can be added on at $5/hour per child as needed.

Chapels 11:40am: 1 & 2 the red room is leading us in “Joshua & the Big Wall”. On the 15 & 16 the Rainbow Room is leading us in “Noah’s Big Boat”. And on the 29 (and March 1) the Purple Room is leading us in “Jonah & the Big Fish”. Come join us!

Daddy N Me Night: Tues. Feb. 7 from 6:30-7:30pm (it’s an “Open House style” drop in activity, to help fit everyone’s crazy schedules). Bring Daddy and come in your Pajamas for this fun craft project. We’re making a top secret valentine’s day project for mommy, so don’t spoil the surprise! (Daddy unable to come? A grandpa, uncle, or special guy friend is welcome to come substitute).

Valentine’s Day Card Exchange: We’ll be exchanging cards for Valentine’s day on the 13th (for MWF Classes) and the 14th (for T-Th and Orange & Kindergarten). If your child is bringing cards for their classmates, please make sure that you bring one for every student so no one is left out. Younger students may want to leave the “to” section blank and just sign them to make distribution easier since they’re still emerging readers.

Bale Sale: Blue Room’s bake sale is the 23 & 24 – come support Mrs. Desiree’s MWF & Coah Joel/Mr. Andrew’s T-Th Class with treats!

Friday Flood: Feb. 24 6-7:30pm. Sign your child up at the clipboard by the office. Crew Leaders & assistants needed. Please contact us to sign up!

Parent-Teacher Conferences: Feb. 27-March 2 Before/After School – Sign up with your child’s teacher for a conference to discuss the upcoming school year placement for your child… and receive your child’s strengths and weaknesses evaluation so that you can partner with us to continue to grow your child over the course of the rest of the year and the summer.

Chancy-Bruce Kindergarten Readiness (for PreK & K students) and 1st Grade Readiness (for K students) testing will be March 8 & 9.

 Kindergarten: Starting Fall 2012

With all the changes to Kindergarten in California being made, The Creek Preschool & Kindergarten remains committed to providing a developmentally appropriate academic experience for all children in our school.

The birthday cutoff date for Creek Kindergarten remains Dec. 1, as the California Kindergarten is splitting its Kindergarten into regular Kindergarten (5 by Nov. 1) and “Transitional Kindergarten” (5 between Nov. 2 & Dec. 2)

In addition, while many schools are moving towards a full day Kindergarten, The Creek will continue to offer a half day academic kindergarten program from 8am -12pm Monday through Friday. With our fifteen to one ratio, quality curriculum, and excellent teacher we know that our students are getting the full kindergarten experience while still getting to be kids.

 5 Day Pre-K: Starting Fall 2012

At The Creek we’re always striving to add more value to our programs for your children.  One of the programs we would love to offer in 2012 is a Junior Kindergarten class of older Pre-K age children who may have already had a 3-day or 2-day Pre-K experience but are ready for a Bonus Year with a more academic Jr. K curriculum.

Pre-Kindergarten Age Cut Off: Starting Fall 2012 With the California change to the 2013-14 Kindergarten Cut-Off age of 5 by Oct. 1, our Pre-K students need to be 4 by Oct. 1 2012.

Preschool: Our preschool remains a 2.5 years start date, and we will continue to have an option for non-potty trained children in one of our 3’s classes.

We’re back and school is at full steam ahead!

We started with music classes this week, and we’ve got chapels, the tooth fairy, and the return of bake sales all coming up this month! In addition, February is Daddy N Me Night & our Valentine Day card exchange… so mark your new 2012 calendars  with all of this year’s Creek events!

Sports, Skateboarding, & Spanish all start back up with Andrews Athletics: download registration form here for more info.

Dance class also resumes. You can pick up a flyer for more info on this Tuesday afternoon program in the office.

Chapels: The Blue Room is leading our January Chapel on the 18 & 19 at 11:40 am.  They will be teaching us about “The Man Who Helped.” Come join us for this time or worship and learning together.

The Tooth Fairy:  We’re being visited by the Tooth Fairy on Jan. 20 (for MWF & Kindergarten) and Jan. 24 (for T-Th & Orange) – we’re going to be learning about the importance of good dental habits (and maybe even what she does with those teeth she collects!)

Friday Flood: Our kids night event returns on Jan 20^th from 6:00-7:30pm!  Sign up at the office clipboard for this time of worship, games, and Bible learning to make sure we have room for your child.  We’re also looking for crew leader adults (and teens) to help shepherd the children around the events, and to teach the (simple and fun) small group time lesson – let us know if you can help!

Bake Sale: Bake sales return this month on the 26 & 27- all proceeds benefit Mrs. Cathy’s MWF Red Room and Mrs. Elizabeth’s T-Th Red Room.  Stop by their table by the office and pick up some yummy goodies!
